mid-exam insanity

I perfectly understand that I'm trapped in the prison of exams and the only thing that I should indulge myself in should be studies. But inspite of the knowledge, I'd rather sleep my time away. Wisdom, eh. Because honestly, doing the right thing is not at all interesting. In fact its the most boring of all things. You know you're right and thats it. There's no danger, no chance, no risk, no excitement! So I've decided that I'm going to pamper myself. In all ways possible. Which means even less hours of study. Ah, justifying myself when I'm so beautifully wrong is the best. Simply priceless!

I used to be an internet addict when in my Alevels and once someone online gave me very good and serious advice that its just a matter of a few days, study intensely so that you have no regrets later, once you're done with exams there will be loads of time to be online..

I took his advice seriously, got off the net 4-5 days before my exams started, and used to go online for 2-3 hrs after every exam since there used to be breaks between each exam..

I got all A's :) Alhumdullillah and the happiness, satisfaction, gifts, money, congratulations I got made it worth it =D till today

Study reaaaaaally sucks. Unfortunately for me, its not a 'matter of days'. More like months. I can't wait to start working in a hospital. Anything is better than being cooped up with books all day.

The sooner you realise study is about sacrificing your own comfort and peace of mind, the better you'll be able to cope with the burden. Hmm.... That's advice I should take myself!

Ah Procastination. Ive done it a lot in my time by like mayya said when its time to study, I do study, cause I have a confoundedly strong conscience and it eats me later with the what ifs etc. So If you want my advice :D, study enough so that you are satisfied with yourself and your preperation but certainly don't overdo it. Keep time for recreation cuz studying too much is also bad and results in the brain taking its own time to shut down at times.

I have always gotten A's in my classes and Alhamdolillah I think I have mastered the strategy. Here is what I do.

Study for like 3-4 hours, then watch TV, Listen to music, Play A PC game for like 1-2 hour and then hit the books again.

Study shoudnt be a sacrifice, it should be fun in its own right. Make a schedule. It works best that way. Don't do anything too much. Miana Rawi as the Prophet PBUH called it :D.

BTW. Yes i am from Kashmir. I came to the US in 2002 to study. Lived 18 years in Saudi Arabia where my parents still live, in Riyadh. I did my Bachelors in CS from the US in Dec 2004. Gonna start my MS in CS from USC from Jan 2006. Btw if you have orkut or msn do let me know if you wish to converse on a more one on one basis.

Yalla sis, just study for a couple of days....c'mon only a few days left inshaAllah then insha'Allah tum freeeee ho jao gi!

Take care,
Ohhh...i just rememebered a technique, buy lots of whatever sweet you like (even something like mentos would do), and for every one thing you learn, reward yourself. Warning: only if you have will power, if you don't, then books will be on one side and mentos wrappers will tkae more space, insha'Allah...lolz!

Rinceoir: Yeah!

Mayya: Jazakallah for the advice, really. Its been helpful and I know because I've been studyin!!

DrPak: You're a doctor! You're destined to study! So don't whine, be a good boi and study, lol

Reza: Wow you're so intelligent. The problem with me is that my concetration span lasts for about 45-50 minutes. After that I MUST do something else otherwise I'd die off some excessive education sorta syndrome. But jazakallah for the advice:)

Maria Q: hehe, I'm doing your menstos thingy! I've been feeling very minty and fresh lately !! :)

Suleman: Yes, I'm getting ready for the next battle after failing the one before, lol. Nah, I understand the wisdom undlying your words. Thank you for droppin by :)

Well see thats cool Niqabi meri dost. Do 50 minutes of study and then just take a break, eat a snack, a candy bar, listen to a few songs, and then hit the books again and rinse and repeat.

You know the MOST important thing that differentiates a person who scores more than one who doesnt is.. The one who scores more knows when its time to study and when to take a break. Don't overdo either. Not healthy :).

NIQABI- many people say that 'i am not studying at home, i am taking a break' but infact, they ARE studying!! then when they get an A and you say i thought you didnt study and they say 'yea i know! i dont know what happened, mai nay toh sirf tukkay maaray thay'..
then u feel like slapping them..
does that make sense?

My two cents. It might seem like the most difficult thing on the planet to do but it sure is easier than a shephard or a worker boy in a shaddy shop and many more things. So dont worry you will do just fine. Take all the breaks you want to still it will all be fine. I have stuck to this logic for five years.

I have an exam in about 24 hours, and I have yet to open my books.

(in my defense: the course is on Islamic Civilization, and with my attentiveness in class and good note taking, (combined with previous knowledge of a lot of the topics) I'm confident about the exam)
